European finals at no extra cost: How you can watch the UEFA men’s finals, on us

It’s been a gripping and often brilliant season of UEFA club football. The three men’s competitions all introduced new formats, which meant there was even more football to enjoy and a huge amount of it was top-class, exciting stuff. From Liverpool’s demolition of German champs Bayer Leverkusen in the early stages of the Champions League to Man Utd’s chaotic comeback against Lyon in the Europa League quarters and that epic semi-final between Inter and Barcelona, this season had it all.

And the good news is that the UEFA Champions League and Conference League finals are available to all Virgin TV customers at no extra cost in HD. Real Betis v Chelsea
Wednesday 28 May, 6.30pm, TNT Sports HD (CH 527)

Chelsea were destined for the UEFA Conference League final from the start. Their progress through the league stage was serene to say the least (six games, six wins, 26 goals) and they haven’t been behind for a single minute through the knockout rounds, culminating in a 5-1 stroll against Djurgården in the semis. Forwards Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu have been free-scoring in this competition, nabbing 13 goals between them, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall commanding in midfield and Benoît Badiashile impressive at the back. 

Their opponents Real Betis haven’t been as dominant but their form has improved hugely in the second half of the season, with a run of victories pushing them up the league table in Spain and some excellent results in the Conference League too, including a semi-final victory over a strong Fiorentina side. Man Utd loanee Antony has put in a string of player-of-the-match performances since his arrival in January, while other players familiar to Premier League fans are ex-Arsenal defender Héctor Bellerín, former Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso and erstwhile West Ham and Liverpool keeper Adrián.

You’d expect Chelsea, with stars like Cole Palmer, to have too much for their Spanish opponents – but Betis have plenty of talent and will arrive at Wrocław’s Miejski Stadium with confidence. On 28 May, you can enjoy the game at no extra cost in HD on CH 527.

Paris Saint-Germain v Inter Milan
Saturday 31 May, 6pm, TNT Sports HD (CH 527)

There may not be a team from these shores in this year’s UEFA Champions League final, but it’s an absolutely mouthwatering prospect all the same. English fans will know all about Paris St-Germain, who beat Man City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal on their way to the final: under coach Luis Enrique, they’ve transformed themselves from a chaotic side overloaded with superstars to a well-oiled machine of a team who can defend heroically and attack with devastating power.

From the calm assurance of Marquinhos at the back to the exciting talent of Ousmane Dembélé up front, via the superb midfield trio of Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz and João Gomes, PSG are a magnificent outfit who are probably favourites to win what would be their first ever Champions League. But don’t rule out their opponents, who came through a scintillating semi-final against a brilliant Barcelona team, winning 7-6 on aggregate to reach the final.

It’s Inter’s second final in three years, and coach Simone Inzaghi has blended youth and experience to create a classic Italian team who are strong and wily in defence and endlessly energetic in midfield. Striker and captain Lautaro Martínez has been among the best forwards in Europe this season, while Nicolò Barella and Davide Frattesi are two of Italy’s most talented midfielders, and Dutch international Denzel Dumfries is tireless at wing-back.

Fun facts: This is the first final since 2004 to feature no team from England, Spain or Germany. And the last team not from England, Spain or Munich to win the Champions League was… Inter, when they claimed the trophy in 2010.
